Calibre and Rclone

I recently setup an Unraid server and have begun using it to back up my digital life. I use Calibre for managing my ebook library and was looking for a way to automate the backup of my library. I found Rclone which is perfect for the task.

Samba share

On my Unraid server, I have a share created for my ebooks. Rclone (version 1.60 and later) supports connecting to a SMB share https://rclone.org/smb/. I created a new "remote" connecting to the Unraid share.

Scheduling

With the "remote" configured, I set up a cron job to automate the backup to the Unraid server whenever I rebooted.

@reboot sleep 300 && rclone sync /home/ben/Calibre\ Library/ Unraid:ebooks/Calibre
