About Ben Struthers and BStruthers.com

About Me

I’m the Ben Struthers who lives in Minnesota. There are a few other Ben Struthers out there; our numbers are growing (at least that's what searching for my name is telling me). To all the other Ben Struthers out there, we should probably form a coalition to take over the world...

Professional Me

A fancy headshot of me.

I am Solution Architect/Architect Manager who is just entering the realm of management. I still get to architect and develop code but now I am taking on the adventure of helping people develop and grow themselves.

My 20+ year career has been spent doing web development. I spent a lot of time messing around on the web before that. I enjoy doing everything from the front-end to the back-end. My primary professional focus has been "enterprise" software- .NET and Angular. I love working with plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It brings me back and it's ridiculously easy to work with now. The web has changed so much from when I started. I've picked up a few other languages and frameworks along the way. Some of which may be a little rusty.

I do have a LinkedIn but it's not up to date. Feel free to find me on there and check it out if you want.

Non-Professional Me

Me having some fun for Father's Day.

I enjoy listening to music, drinking a good cup of coffee, and having a beer or whiskey. I am grateful for any time to disconnect and be outdoors. I've started to pick up photography, wood working, and learning the guitar. I like to tinker with technology when I have the time.

I like to play with Lego, play video games, and spend time with my family.

I’m a baseball guy. Summers are magical being around the ball fields, playing catch, passing on what I know. I enjoy watching the MN Twins, even though they constantly get my hopes up.

About BStruthers.com

BStruthers.com has been my online home since 2007. A lot has changed on the web since then.

Back when I set up this site, having your own blog was what you did. That faded away as the internet changed but seems to have been making a come back.

This site has been my place to share ideas, code, random thoughts with anyone who happens to stumble across it. It's never been utilized as much as I would like. I keep hoping that someday I'll just write and write and write.

Technology wise, I've gone through several iterations. It began as a Django powered website (I think version 0.96?). For a long time the site became a static website where I stopped sharing any thoughts. I got the writing bug again and created a Angular Single Page Application blogging framework and ran that for a little while. Now the site has come full circle and is powered by Django again. And it has an RSS feed again. 2007 is back! And in case anyone is wondering, I never mastered Helix but I did finally start using vim.

I like dinosaurs, particularly brontosauruses. I blame the 80's. I'm also getting to be a bit of a technology dinosaur myself. So instead of asking "why dinosaurs" you should ask "why not dinosaurs". Dinosaurs are awesome.
